The story of America includes the worst villains and the greatest heroes — and on June 27 Glenn Beck will tell some of those stories in Preston to help raise funds for two important local projects.

Beck, a nationally known political commentator, will perform two shows and a dinner show at the Franklin County Event Center, 251 N. 250 West, to benefit the Oneida Stake Academy building’s restoration and the Larsen-Sant Library’s expansion.

“We can’t think of a better way to celebrate America’s 250th birthday than to learn more about our country’s powerful history,” said Alexis Beckstead, chairperson of the Oneida Stake Academy Foundation. “And that Glenn Beck would so graciously accept our invitation to help us raise funds needed to finish these important buildings is a plus.”

Beck will share historical artifacts from his private collection while discussing the virtues on which American society was built. He said his own appreciation for history came later in life.

“I hated American history, honestly, until I was about 30,” he said. “Then I met David Barton, who would tell me stories about American history — and he had the documents to prove it. I was fascinated. There’s no reason for fiction. Every story has already been told. They are fabulous — the greatest villains and greatest heroes — all in American history.”

Sue Stewart of the library board said, “Since education and history are such integral parts of the missions of both the Oneida Stake Academy Foundation and the library, we couldn’t be more happy with this family-oriented experience.”

The first show begins at 1 p.m., the second at 3:30 p.m. and the dinner show at 6 p.m. Dinner show participants may choose between steak or chicken.

Tickets are available at oneidastakeacademy.org/events. Adult show tickets are $35, youth ages 5-15 are $15 and children age 4 and under are free. Dinner show tickets are $100.
