Academy Restoration

The Oneida Stake Academy stands as a remarkable symbol of resilience and heritage, reflecting the rich history of Franklin County. Built in the late 19th century, this iconic structure once served as a center of education and community gathering. After decades of wear and the threat of demolition, dedicated individuals and organizations rallied to save and restore the academy to its former glory.

Every penny raised through donations and grants has gone directly toward preserving this historic landmark. Each contribution has played a vital role in ensuring that the Oneida Stake Academy remains a cherished part of our community’s heritage for generations to come.

  • Stone walls core drilled and filled with epoxy and rebar for stabilization.

2009

  • New front stairs poured

  • ​​Roof re-shingled with wood shingles and repairs made.

2010

  • Front door and bell tower were painted barn red.

  • ​Fund-raising video "Within These Walls" created

2011

  • Original cast iron basement columns re-installed

  • Ballroom floor secured to outer walls

  • Roof trusses strengthened and stabilized

2012

  • Front gable restored

  • Roof re-shingled with modern materials

  • Heat tapes installed in roof drains

2013

  • Twin I-beams raised and leveled under ballroom floor

  • stonework progressed on the front of the building​

  • Bell Tower restored

2014

  • Main floor false ceiling removed

  • Stone entry arch restored

2015

  • New energy efficient windows installed on the front of the building

  • Front door restored

2016

  • Electronic bell sound system installed

2017

  • Ballroom rendering created

  • Heat Tapes replaced

  • ​Fund-raising video "Miracles of a Legacy" created

2018

  • French drain connected to city system

  • Stonework added to the stairs and the base of the foundation

  • entry hall, entry foyer and stairs drywalled and painted

2019

  • Front door re-stained

  • stonework progressed on the sides and rear of the building​

  • Pre-cast window lintels installed​

  • New energy efficient windows installed

2020

  • Old woodwork removed from the interior of the outside walls.

  • Spray foam insulation added to walls

  • Insulation layered on the ballroom ceiling in the attic

2021

  • Plumbing roughage started in the basement

2022

  • Basement plumbing completed

  • Basement cement floor poured

  • Water/Sewer lines connected to building

  • Fire Suppression line brought to site 

2023

  • Road and sidewalk patched

  • Water shut-off valve installed

  • Elevator/Patio blueprints completed

  • Academy Memories - A History of Oneida Stake Academy Published

2024

  • Installed new roof membrane, flashing, and shingles

  • Installed new roof ice melt system

  • Added gutters and downspouts

  • re-routed roof drains

  • Started HVAC project

2025

  • Main hallway floor raised and leveled

  • Gas line installed

  • Electronic bell sound system relocated
